Boston, you need to chill out.

O Boston, Cambridge, Harvard kids. You never gave us the memo. I didn’t know I needed my sport coat and Sperry’s to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb. We arrived in Cambridge unpretentious, hungry, and ready to have a good time. Apparently, we needed an agenda to have a good time. We needed to make sure that we “penciled that into our schedule”. Weird. I wasn’t aware I had a schedule for this trip.
We started the night off with frozen margs and dinner at the Border Cafe in Harvard Square. It was delicious, and the margs was perfect after our four and a half bus ride up from NYC.
After dinner Mikaela and I found ourselves in the middle of the sidewalk turning our handmade map in circles attempting to ascertain which direction was forward. “That looks like trouble,” a man passing us commented. Indeed. ” Where are you trying to go?” “Grendel’s” . Turns out we didn’t need the map at all, we just needed to look around; it was just to our right. We situated ourselves in the cozy basement bar, drank a couple cocktails, and kept things relatively mellow. How much trouble can two little girls get into anyway?
Apparently, quite a bit. Mikaela and I headed over to Murry’s after Grendel’s for some live music and well, whatever else showed up. Whatever else definitely showed up. We made a friend named Andy at the bar and he let us know that if we headed to the basement we could do some of our own singing, karaoke style. He didn’t have to ask twice.
I’m not really sure what we drank, how much, or how much we sang. But I do know that we cleared the bar our with our karaoke prowess. Somewhere throughout the night we sang Miley, Journey, Spice Girls, Salt N Pepa, and some Timewarp, complete with the dance. Luckily, our collarless shirts attracted a little more than dirty looks, and we made another friend who loves the time warp as much as me. Karaoke is definitely a group effort.
This morning, Sheri’s two-year old daughter Mandala woke up bright and early and wanted to make sure the “kids” were up (um… that would be Mikaela and I). She paraded downstairs in her choo-choo train onsie and demanded that it was play time. Ha, Mikaela, how do you like that now?
We spent the morning and lunch in Downtown Boston, got lost, missed the bus, and managed to get on a later bus to NYC. All in a days work.

it’s only appropriate that you got lost in Boston. I typically got lost walking from my house to the T.
