Really, who has this much motivation this late in the season??
“beep beep beep.’ My alarm goes off, it’s 3:30 am, I got off work 4 hours ago, and Molly, Zach Giffin, Jeff Barnow, Steve Lloyd , Carston Oliver and I are heading up the Little Cottonwood Canyon for some spring dawn patrol action. I think I prefer dawn patrols when the sunrises at 8, but then again, it was so warm this morning the snow didn’t even freeze and I could skin in a t-shirt. In true junk show style, team go had forgotten beacons, gloves, poles, and headlamps, thank god our trusty photog has back ups for life! The darkness engulfed us, with slivers from the tiny moon trickling through the clouds on occasion, and my weariness and hack from AK followed me up the skin track. However, the sun did not follow, at least not in the manner we had anticipated. Despite the weather calling for bluebird skies, I think the mountains missed the memo, and as dawn broke we found Superior masked with clouds. We bailed on the shoot, skied some nice, bullet proof, morning spring snow (and Carston skied it switch! He’s my hero!), and found our way back down the sunny SLC for some well earned brunch, and yes, it is brunch at 9 am when you’ve been up for 6 hours already!
