Ready, Set, GO!
Registration opened today for the Telluride and Crested Butte comps! All of a sudden, my season might just have a hint of scheduling to it.
I woke up this morning at 5 am. to the confusion of my phone ringing. I’m writing Liftie again this month, and Kathy Whitefield, the tram operator from Jay Peak, was returning my call. 5 Am???!!! Did she forget that I’m on the West Coast? Really, who wants to conduct an interview at 5 am? I rolled over, reminding myself to call her back when I went into work. I spent the next couple hours attempting to fall back asleep and realizing that I need to know when OR, Powder Awards, and the Canadian Open are today, before 11 am.
OR – 22nd January – 26th January, Powder Awards – 25th January, honestly how am I supposed to be at two major industry events at once? How is everyone supposed to be at two major events at once? O the plight of the ski bum, trying to choose between a trade show and an award show in two different ski areas… life is rough. Either way I’ll be skiing, catching up with old friends, and meeting new people.
11 am, I’m sat in front on my computer logged onto usfreeskiing.com, ready to register. Erin is on the phone and we’re waiting… and waiting, and waiting. Wait, where is registration? It’s not here….. 10 minutes later the link to Crested Butte pops up, $150! Damn, definitely got more expensive than last year… o, Telluride, awesome! Wait -18/60 spots available? uh-oh…. looks like I missed the registration to Telluride, or at least a legit registration. If I register as competitor #-19 do I still get to compete? I decided that it would be a better idea to email Sarah Pinsoneault, registration coordinator for MSI. Hopefully I’ll still be able to compete in Telluride. It is a qualifier for the world tour this year, which means that if you do well, you will be pre-qualified for the whole tour. This is the first time an entire event is being used solely for qualification purposes but I think it’s a great idea. It
Ski season here I come! Now I just need to get back to Salt Lake so I can join the rest of my friends who are already shredding at the ‘Bird
